Barrel Soaking Tubs
Soaking tubs are typically much smaller in size than our regular hot tubs. The small size allows you to change the water often, eliminating the need for chemicals. They hold much less water so quick heat up times are possible even when using small Chofu heaters. The soaking tubs do not come with jets so they are quiet and relaxing, as the therapeutic value is the soak in the the hot water. The soaking tubs can be installed indoors or outdoors. If they are used indoors you will require a tiled floor on concrete with floor drain or a shower pan set up. Ventilation for steam build up will also be required. Of course outdoor installion on a deck or patio requires no extra consideration for spilling water.
Soaking tubs may be heated by three methods:
1. Electrically with a 1.5 kq Balboa digitally controlled heater, 50 sq. ft. filter and small 1/8 hp circulationg pummp. This equipment will work from a 20 amp, 110 volt GFCI wall plug.
2. The Chofu external wood stove will heat the water in 1 to 2 hours with no energy bill. No pump is required because the thermo-siphoning prinicple. the Chofu heaters are not recommended for our larger tubs because of slow heat up times.
3. If you have a larger water tank or supply of solar heated water you can fill the tub directly from the tap.
We make two styles of soaking tubs, round and oval.
Our round tubs are 4 ft diamter and are either 3ft high (32" deep) or 4ft high (44" deep) The 4x3 holds 250 gallons and the 4x4 holds 340 gallons. The round tubs come with 2 benches. This tub will accommodate two people.
The oval tubs have a very elegant shape. they are like an extra large bath with a 150 gallon capacity. Dimensions are 64" long x 34" wide x 26" deep. Patterned from this Japanese Ofuro, you sit on the floor and the water will be at shoulder height. This soaker will accommodate two people.
